MCA's Wong Fong Meng to step down today as Dewan Negara President

Former MCA secretary-general Wong Fong Meng today announced that today would be his last day of office as the Dewan Negara president.

According to Bernama, he told this to reporters after performing his last official act as Dewan Negara president, opening a HIV/Aids Awareness campaign at the Parliament building in Kuala Lumpur this morning.

selangor mca dinner 211108 wong foon meng 2Last week, Wong was replaced as MCA sec-gen, his former post being taken over by Kong Cho Ha in the aftermath of the recent party elections which saw Chua Soi Lek elected as party president.

At the opening ceremony, Wong also urged Members of Parliament (MPs) to play a vital role in helping create awareness among the people with regard to the dangers involved in HIV/Aids awareness campaign to help educate the people of the dangers and preventive measures to avoid or reduce the number of HIV/Aids cases.

"Their role is important and they must focus on the issues and dangers involved in immoral social activities, which endanger women especially," he was quoted as saying.

He also urged corporate, private companies, government agencies and non-governmental organizations (NGO) to come forward and support such campaigns, so as to curb the spread of such diseases to the younger generation.

"The role of the younger generation is very important because their efforts and energy is needed to contribute towards the economy and development of the country," he said.
